Emperor Ricky Trooper

Born Garfield Augustus McKoy in the small district of Mount Regale, St. Mary, Jamaica, Emperor Ricky Trooper grew up surrounded by the vibrant rhythms of sound systems from the very beginning. The very house where he was delivered resonated with the sounds of a dancehall system playing from the night before.

His journey in dancehall reggae began when he was eight years old when he moved to Spanish Town, where the owner of Coptic Hi Power introduced him to his first sound system. Copey mentored him on the art of dancehall reggae sound clash.

He started out his career at the mighty Kilimanjaro where he worked alongside Papa San, Ninja Man, Lecturer and Bunny General. It was here he earned the nickname “The Killing Machine.” Trooper cemented his status as one of the baddest selectors in the business before establishing his own sound system, Sound Trooper.

Kilimanjaro went on a soundclash killing spree behind Ricky Trooper during the 1990s dubplate era, winning the World Clash twice and touring the United States, Europe and Japan. Many consider him a living legend when it comes to making great dub plates.

Today Emperor Ricky Trooper brings his legendary skills and decades of experience exclusively to TBN Reggae Radio as our resident DJ, hosting three weekly shows that keep the riddim alive for fans worldwide. 🇯🇲
